Manners

  • Arrive at a class 5 minutes before the nominated start time of the class.
  • Register - Sign the attendance register.
  • Pay the schedule fee before the commencement of a class.
  • No discussion - Engage only in discussion with the teacher before and during class.
  • Respect other students.
  • Permission - Seek other participating student’s permission before touching them.
  • Adjustments - If you do not wish to receive adjustments, advise the teacher prior to the commencement of the class.
  • Shoes - Leave shoes outside the studio room or to one side of the room. Do not walk around the studio with shoes on.
  • Mobile phones - Turn mobile phones or any other electronic device off or onto silent mode.
  • Food and drink - No food or drink bought to class other than water or what is appropriate to support a known illness.
  • Intoxicated or Illegal Substances - Do not attend a class intoxicated or under the influence of illegal substances.
  • Leave the class - If leaving the class, please do so quietly.

Injuries and Illness

  • Advise the teacher - At the start of a class the student must advise the teacher of any injuries they may have.
  • Adjustments - Advise the teacher immediately if a physical adjustment has caused any discomfort or pain.
  • Use props - Use appropriate props to support the body as required.
  • Illness - Advise the teacher of any medication a student may need to be administered in class.

Props

  • Mats - Wipe studio mats with a cloth before returning them to their place of storage. Mats are to be rolled and stored at the end of each class.
  • Blocks and belts - Wipe blocks and belts with a cloth before returning them to their place of storage.
  • Blankets - Fold blankets and return to their place of storage.
  • Eye pillows - Remove the eye pillow cover and return the eye bag to its place of storage.

Students

  • Clothing - Wear suitable clean clothing to class and if necessary wear deodorant.
  • Mats - Students may bring their own mat to class.
  • Props - Students may bring their own yoga props to class.
  • Water bottle and hand towel - Bring a water bottle and hand towel to each class.
  • Eating - Avoid eating 1-2 hours prior to the start of a class.
  • Bladder and bowel - It is preferred that the postures are performed with an empty bladder or bowel.
  • Personal Property - The studio takes no responsibility for personal property left in the studio.

Emergency Procedures

In the event a student is injured during a yoga class the following will occur:

First aid will be applied immediately; and

Severity of Injury - Depending on the severity of the injury, either:

  • an ambulance will be called; or
  • the student will be escorted to the closest hospital or medical centre; or
  • the student will be advised to seek medical assistance as soon as possible.

Evacuation Procedures

Fire Alarm - In the event a fire alarm is activated all students will leave the premises via the appropriate fire exit.

Building Incident - It is acknowledged with any kind of building incident, such as structural damage or leakage that there could be a flow on effect. Accordingly, in the interest of everyone’s health and safety all students are required to leave the premises immediately via the appropriate fire exit.

Treatment of Confidential Information Policy

Personal Information - All personal information is to be treated confidentially. Students must provide their written consent to form part of an SMS or email group for the purposes of being advised that a scheduled class will be cancelled. Their contact details will not be passed to a third party, ie another student without their consent.

Medical Information - Any information regarding a student’s health and well being will be treated confidentially.

Instructor Unavailable Policy

Scheduled Absences - Registered students will be advised by SMS message and email.

Emergency Absences -In the event an instructor is unavailable to take a scheduled class due to an emergency, registered will be advised by SMS message and email.

Relief Instructor - Where available, a relief instructor may take a scheduled class. Registered students will be notified by SMS message or email that a relief instructor will take the class.
